Val d'Isère is a stunning combination of Savoyard charm, Alpine hospitality, high-quality service, and developed infrastructure. Situated in France just five kilometers from the Italian border, the resort boasts a unique character. Tourists are drawn to the picturesque landscapes of Val d'Isère and its surroundings, as it is located directly adjacent to two national parks—Vanoise (France) and Grand Paradisi (Italy). The ski season is quite long, from November to April, and the Pissaillas glacier is suitable for skiing year-round.

Trails and slopes

Val d'Isère boasts 10,000 hectares of skiable terrain and 300 kilometers of pistes, ranging from blue to black. Elevations range from 1,550 to 3,540 meters. Experienced skiers and snowboarders seeking adrenaline rushes will appreciate the Bellevard descent, which boasts a steepness of up to 63 degrees. The modern funicular takes just a few minutes to reach the summit. Val d'Isère also offers skiing from the Pissaillas glacier (3,300 m). Beginners are recommended to explore the Col de l'Iseran sector, while intermediate skiers can explore the extensive Oreiler-Killy or Solaise slopes. There's also a large snow park and 44 kilometers of cross-country ski trails. A single ski pass is valid for all areas of Val d'Isère and the neighboring resort of Tignes.

Entertainment and attractions

Val d'Isère offers a wide range of activities, from ice skating and snowmobiling to paragliding, mountaineering, and horseback riding in the surrounding countryside. There are also tennis courts, swimming pools, and fitness centers. For a more relaxing holiday, the resort offers excellent spas, saunas, jacuzzis, and a cinema. A masterclass in traditional French baking, for which France is so famous, can be a fascinating experience for the whole family. Cultural events are regularly held, including film and music festivals and literary gatherings.

Architecture buffs will also love Val d'Isère. It possesses the incredible charm of an old Savoyard village: strolling through the streets, you'll encounter numerous historic buildings. We recommend visiting the 17th-century Baroque church and the town museum. And the most enthusiastic can take a guided tour of the Baroque monuments, visit a farm, or explore a traditional Savoyard craft center.

For those looking for more than just daytime entertainment, we recommend checking out some of the most popular local nightclubs: Doudoune and Graal.

Family vacation

Val d'Isère is the perfect place to introduce younger family members to winter sports. The resort boasts nearly twenty schools where instructors can teach your child skiing or snowboarding. Val d'Isère also boasts a kindergarten, numerous play areas, and a kids' club where children aged 3 to 13 can have fun. The resort has been awarded the Family Plus label, a special French mark for resorts that are ideal for family vacations.

Local cuisine

The resort boasts over forty restaurants and bars to suit every taste. Thanks to Val d'Isère's unique location, not only Savoyard and French cuisine, but also Italian cuisine, are well represented.

How to get there

Geneva and Lyon airports are located 180 and 220 km away, respectively. From there, you can reach Val d'Isère by bus or rental car. Bourg-Saint-Maurice train station is 30 km from the resort.
