Abrau Durso and Guy Kodzor
Wine tourism is well-developed along the Black Sea coast, and there's no shortage of wineries. But the most interesting to visit, in our opinion, are the legendary Abrau-Durso winery, which earned its fame back in Tsarist times, and Gai-Kodzor: it boasts arguably the finest terroir and an atmospheric Italian-style chateau, with an incredible history that can only be revealed at a tasting.
The Abrau-Durso winery was founded in 1870 and, over the course of a century and a half, has become the largest exporter of Russian wines. However, it produces not only sparkling wines, but also still wines, ciders, and spirits. A visit to Abrau-Durso is like stepping into a legend. The Gai-Kodzor vineyards are located in an incredibly picturesque location, and the winery's central chateau deserves special mention: it feels like you've stepped into Italy with its indescribable atmosphere. At the beginning of the 21st century, it was in Gai-Kodzor that French varieties previously uncultivated in Russia were first introduced: Grenache, Malbec, Viognier, and others.

We'll head to the source of the Mzymta River—to the high-mountain lake Kardyvach, the largest in the region. This hard-to-reach attraction is accessible by hiking tours: from the drop-off point in a prepared vehicle, tourists will have to cover 18 km along a challenging route. But we'll arrive at the lake by air, enjoying the breathtaking views of forests, mountain rivers, and alpine meadows from above.
We'll depart from the Mountain Olympic Village for Rosa Khutor. We'll land at the lake and enjoy a 40-minute walk. Kardyvach Lake is crystal-clear, exuding a mountain breeze in any weather. Its color changes depending on the season: azure in autumn, emerald green in spring. From the shore, you can see every stone on the bottom, the lake is so clear, and the mountain peaks and forest are reflected in the calm surface of the water. It's hard to believe this natural gem is located in Russia's southernmost region: the landscapes are more reminiscent of Alaska or Tibet.

Another hard-to-reach attraction, which we'll reach in comfort aboard the new AS350 B3 helicopter from Eurocopter Group. The adventure begins at the Mountain Olympic Village (Rosa Khutor). Along the way, we'll fly over the Aishkho Ridge and see the picturesque peaks of Loyub-Tsukhe and Loyub, whose slopes are dotted with beautiful mountain lakes. We'll also enjoy views of Mount Mramornaya and the Akargvarata mountain range. Your guide will provide detailed information about each peak, including the legends and stories associated with them. The helicopter will cross the Main Caucasus Range and land on the Barmamyt Plateau.
Here, at an altitude of 2,643 meters above sea level, surrounded by bizarre columns, asymmetrical slopes, and dizzying gorges, an incredible spectacle unfolds before us: Mount Elbrus, located just 30 km away and perfectly visible from this natural observation deck.

Polikarya Waterfall
One of the highest waterfalls in southern Russia, it has an unusual name, which translates from Greek as "Bogatyr." Its second, more prosaic name is "Trousers," as the two dividing streams, cascading 70 meters, resemble this particular garment.
Polikarya is fed by melting snow and precipitation falling on the Aibga Ridge. It is at its most powerful in late spring and early summer, but there's plenty to see here at other times as well. The trail leading to the waterfall is an incredible experience in itself, offering a picturesque photo tour where your heart will stop in awe at every step. We'll walk through a relict broadleaf forest along an easy 15-20-minute route, accessible even to those with minimal fitness. The eco-trail is fully equipped with comfortable steps and benches, and along the way, we'll enjoy panoramic views of the Main Caucasus Range. A cable car will take us to the trailhead.

A trip to the Bzerpinsky ledge
For hiking enthusiasts, we offer a short hike along one of the region's most popular routes. This tour can take anywhere from one to five days, depending on your fitness level and preferences.
We'll depart from Alpika, Krasnaya Polyana's premier ski resort. Our route will wind through fir forests that exude mystery, like something out of a fairy tale. Forest trails lead to alpine meadows drenched in fragrant herbs, then dive back beneath the canopy of trees. At the Medvezhyi Vorota tract, you can relax at a beautiful observation deck. Upon reaching our destination—the Bzerpinsky Cornice at an altitude of approximately 2,100 meters—you'll be amazed by the tranquil beauty of this place. The cornice, formed by melting glaciers, culminates in a dizzying cliff face, offering views of the Laura River valley. From here, we can also hike to Mount Tabunnaya and enjoy the panoramic view of the gorge formed by the Mzymta River. In good weather, you'll have a wonderful view of Krasnaya Polyana and even the Black Sea!

Once you find yourself in the White Rocks Canyon, it's hard to believe that this cozy corner of untouched nature—turquoise water, snow-white rocks covered in emerald moss, and tree branches leaning over the stream—is actually located in southern Russia, and not in a remote corner somewhere in Southeast Asia. We'll set off for the White Rocks accompanied by experienced guides and choose a route optimal for your fitness level—from 4 to 10 km. Incidentally, along the way, you can stop at miniature pebble beaches perfect for a swim in the invigorating waters!
We also recommend visiting the picturesque waterfalls near Sochi. Azhek is located in an eco-park, surrounded by beech and boxwood forests, orchards, and secluded canyons. Zmeykovskiye Waterfalls are a stunning cascade in Sochi National Park. Each waterfall is beautiful in its own way, and an easy hike to them runs along a stream in the cool shade of the trees.
