History and Legends

Rouen and Honfleur

Normandy offers incredible architecture, a majestic ocean, and a gastronomic paradise. Leaving Paris in the morning, we'll head to the city of a hundred bell towers—Rouen, famous for its Gothic cathedrals. We'll visit Rouen Cathedral, built between the 13th and 16th centuries and immortalized in Monet's paintings, the square where Joan of Arc was executed, and the original modern church dedicated to her. We'll also visit the 16th-century Palais de Justice and admire the amazing antique clock on the pedestrian Rue de la Gros-Horloge.

Our next destination is Honfleur (approximately 90 km from Rouen). Here we'll check into our hotel and stroll around the town. We'll also be sure to stop by the atmospheric port—a true gem of Honfleur, with its truly French charm. Honfleur was once one of Normandy's most important port cities, playing a major role in the region's defense. In the 19th century, it served as an inspiration for artists, and today it's a cozy resort town. We'll end our day in Honfleur with a tasting of local cheese, aromatic Calvados, or cider.

Mont Saint-Michel - Cancale - Saint-Malo

To continue exploring Normandy, we'll head to Mont Saint-Michel Bay (~150 km). Here, in a stunningly picturesque location, lies a medieval town with narrow streets and a majestic Benedictine abbey built between the 8th and 13th centuries. During the walk, your guide will tell you about the history and legends of Mont Saint-Michel, which has rightfully earned the title "The Eighth Wonder of the World" and is one of the most visited locations in all of France. As we ascend to the top of the island, you'll enjoy panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean.

We'll then leave Normandy and head to the neighboring region of Brittany. Our first stop in Brittany will be the port town of Cancale, which also offers views of the Bay of Saint-Michel. Cancale is famous above all for its bustling oyster markets: we'll stroll through them, buy the freshest oysters from local fishermen, and sample them right there at the market stalls. We'll then head to Saint-Malo (~18 km), where we'll check into our hotel.

Legendary Cognac

Cognac is a provincial town on the banks of the Charente River, just a 1.5-hour drive from Bordeaux. Surrounded by quiet villages and vineyard-covered hills, it is world-famous for its namesake. The largest cognac houses are located here: Hennessy, Rémy Martin, Martell, and Courvoisier. But there are also thousands of small private companies growing grapes and producing cognac. Some of them sell their cognac independently, occupying a very small market share. However, it is here that you can find true treasures: cognacs over 40 years old, possessing a true individuality and receiving high scores in blind tastings

You'll visit two properties: one large cognac house, where you'll experience the prestige and marketing flair of great cognac brands, and one family-run estate, steeped in authenticity. There, the family will welcome you as their guest, and you'll discover the atmosphere of a true cognac distillery. Your guide will teach you all about the cognac production process, from vine to glass.
