Courchevel is synonymous with respectability and luxury, but it's also a truly multifaceted, even cosmopolitan resort. This is because it consists of five villages in a single valley, each unique in its own way. They boast different altitudes and atmospheres, but they all share first-class service.
Trails and slopes
The resort offers a wide selection of pistes, offering options for both beginners and experts. Courchevel's pistes total 150 kilometers, with elevation gains ranging from 1,100 to 2,738 meters. Most (approximately 85%) are located above 1,800 meters. More than 60 modern lifts serve the pistes.
Among the more challenging pistes, Jean Blanc and Couloir Emile Allais deserve special attention, while those new to snowboarding or skiing are recommended to head to the special ZEN zones. There are also some interesting themed areas, such as a dedicated braking practice zone or a piste open for night skiing.
Entertainment: active recreation and attractions
Courchevel boasts a well-developed entertainment infrastructure—you're sure to find something to suit your taste. Numerous prepared hiking trails are ideal for an active daytime getaway: they can be explored on foot, snowshoes, or snowmobiles. You can also go dog sledding, ice skating, or try something exotic: tobogganing, a traditional sleigh used by the indigenous people of North America. There's a dedicated two-kilometer track just for this. Besides winter activities, visitors can enjoy bowling, squash courts, a casino, and a cinema.
To add a touch of culture to your skiing, you can visit the local museum or one of the art exhibitions regularly held both in galleries and outdoors. Among the most popular excursions are trips to La Praz, where you can get a closer look at the unique Savoyard culture, and to the Vanoise National Park. Courchevel boasts a concert hall, festivals, and shows.
The resort also has a vibrant nightlife with numerous bars and clubs, the most famous of which are Les Caves de Courchevel and Le Grange.
Family vacation
The youngest tourists will also have plenty to do. For children aged six months and up, there's a crèche where they can remain under the supervision of experienced caregivers while their parents hit the slopes. Ski schools accept children as young as one and a half years old. The resort boasts numerous playgrounds and exciting activities for the whole family.
Local cuisine
Courchevel boasts over seventy restaurants, seven of which have Michelin stars. In addition to haute cuisine and exquisite delicacies, you can also sample local dishes—Savoyard cuisine is renowned for its combination of simplicity and heartiness, delicious cheeses, charcuterie, and Savoyard biscuits, the recipe for which dates back to the 14th century.
How to get there
There are three international airports located 110-190 km from Courchevel: Geneva, Lyon, and Chambéry. The closest is Chambéry Airport. Trains, buses, and taxis run from there to the resort.
